The versatile Costa Rican defender Michael Umaña, joins Chivas USA from Costa Rican club Liberia Mia. Born on July 16, 1982, Umaña made his professional debut in the Costa Rican First Division with CS Herediano in 2005, joining the LA Galaxy later that year. After a one-year stint with the Galaxy, Umaña returned to Costa Rica where he played with CS Herediano, Brujas and his latest club Liberia Mia. Umaña made several appearances for the Costa Rican youth teams, playing in tournaments like the 2004 Summer Olympics, and later became an important part of the full national team, and played in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
MLS Experience 2005: Umaña made his MLS debut when he joined the LA Galaxy from CS Herediano. He made 15 appearances with the Galaxy and then returned to Costa Rica to join club Brujas.
