Mejia enjoys his time with Chivas USA
In early 2012, Edgar Mejia was packing his bags to join Mexican First Division side Club Leon on loan from Chivas USA’s sister club Chivas Guadalajara. Due to injuries, “Chore” as he is best known among his teammates, was sidelined for most of the season and unable to make an impact with the club.
But early in 2013, the versatile midfielder joined Chivas USA on loan to help the team make a turn-around from last season’s poor results. And so far, he’s done just that.
“I feel that I have adapted well [to the league],” Mejia told cdchivasusa.com. “Obviously the season has just started and there was a long period where I wasn’t playing. I feel that I’m on a good path, I haven’t won anything, and I haven’t achieved anything. I’ve simply done everything I can to make this team better, do whatever the coach asks of me, and that’s what I’m here for.”
On March 24, Mejia notched his first MLS goal in a 4-1 victory against the Chicago Fire, that goal would earned him a nomination for MLS Goal of the Week and Latino of the Week. He would later earn the latter by a 78.63% landslide, the highest percentage in history. Mejia has also been named to MLS’ Fantasy League Dream Team on two occasions for his stellar performances.
While the humble Mexican midfielder credits the positive streak on good team chemistry, he admits that he has enjoyed every minute in Los Angeles, visiting nearby theme parks, city attractions and last but not least, Hollywood.
“I’m very happy here in LA,” Mejia said. “My wife and son are very happy as well and that’s the most important thing for me. If my family is happy, it just means that I could give my all during training and games.”
