Youth Academy Update: March 4
After holding a three-game winning streak, Chivas USA’s U17/18 team were defeated in a double match weekend. On Saturday, the U17’s fell 3-2 to the Santa Barbara Breakers U17/18’s, then took a 4-1 loss to De Anza Force n Sunday. Against Santa Barbara, Michael Gonzalez and Romario Lomeli each scored for the Red-and-White. On Sunday’s tough loss, Daniel Romero scored the lone goal for the Goats’ 4-1 loss. With the weekend results, the U17 team dropped one spot in the Southwest Division to sixth place.
The U15/16’s extended their unbeaten streak last weekend after defeating the Santa Barbara Breakers 1-0 on Saturday and playing De Anza Force to a 1-1 draw on Sunday. Jorge Ruiz notched his eighth goal of the season on Saturday, while Amaya Adonis added another to his 10-goal record on Sunday. Despite their positive streak, the young Goats dropped to third place in the Southwest Division.
Chivas USA’s U17/18 and U15/16’s will have the upcoming weekend off, but will continue training ahead of their match against Cal Odyssey on Saturday, March 16 at the College of the Sequoias in Visalia, Calif. and the San Jose Earthquakes’ youth teams on Sunday, March 17 at the Nutrilite Training Facility.
Chivas USA’s U9 Team had a good streak in Cal South’s State Cup that kicked-off on Feb. 9. The young Goats made it to the final match of their category, but were defeated 3-2 by Albion FC on Sunday. Despite the loss, the U9’s put up a good fight and will continue their participation in the Southern California Development Soccer League.
