Chivas USA played the LA Galaxy to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon at The Home Depot Center; SuperDraft pick Carlos Alvarez made his league and club debut, and minutes before the end of the match, scored the equalizing goal for the Red-and-White.

Only one Western Conference team was able to earn a victory in MLS’ Rivalry week over the weekend. The only team to earn a win in Rivalry Week was FC Dallas, who regained “El Capitan” for another year with a late 3-2 victory over Houston Dynamo. Dallas will host fellow Western team Real Salt Lake this Saturday at FC Dallas Stadium.

Speaking of RSL, the Utah-based team earned a 1-1 draw with the Colorado Rapids on Saturday in the first leg of the Rocky Mountain Cup. The Rapids will face the LA Galaxy on Saturday and will do so without their starting goalkeeper Matt Pickens who suffered a broken arm in the early minutes of the game; Pickens will be out of action for 3-4 months and will miss the first two games against Chivas USA.

Not having a Rivalry Week match, the San Jose Earthquakes visited the Columbus Crew on Saturday and earned a 1-1 draw. This Saturday, the Earthquakes host Seattle Sounders FC, who played the Portland Timbers to a 1-1 draw in the first match of the Cascadia Cup.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC had a bye week, but will travel to Houston this Saturday before coming to LA for the first game against Chivas USA scheduled for Saturday, March 30.
