Training Report: Final day
In two separate training sessions, Chivas USA hit the training field Friday morning for the final day of practice ahead of their fifth game of the season set for Saturday evening. The potential starting 11 kicked off practice early morning, and were later joined by the remaining players.
Last Sunday, Chivas USA defeated the Chicago Fire 4-1 at Toyota Park, earning three points, became the team with the most goals scored in the league, and maintained a three-game unbeaten streak. Meanwhile, Vancouver Whitecaps FC kicked off the season on a high note, earning two wins against Toronto FC in the season opener and at Columbus Crew. Whitecaps FC took their first loss last Saturday, a 2-1 loss at BBVA Stadium.
Despite the recent result, Coach Chelis sees the ‘Caps as a powerful opponent: “Vancouver is a different team from those we have faced in the previous four games. They have players that, if we’re not careful, it can get complicated for us. As of today, we’re the team with the most goals scored with eight; we’re in first place in terms of goals scored. The point of this is for us to reach the top spots and maintain ourselves there. Our main objective: score goals so that come Monday, we’re still in the top spot in goals scored and obviously, if you score goals, you win games.”
While the team practiced corner kicks, Juan Agudelo tripped over a mannequin (who was named “Pedrito” by Coach Chelis) that was set on the field, causing the young forward to fall. Agudelo got back up, but kept a “grudge” against Pedrito. Once the team finished practice, Agudelo took his “anger” out, punching the mannequin to the floor. The two eventually made up.
After practice, the team headed to a local hotel where they will be in concentration ahead of Saturday’s match. Chivas USA will host Vancouver Whitecaps FC on March 30 at 7:30 pm at The Home Depot Center. Click here to purchase your tickets.
