Two weeks in, preseason scrimmages are underway for Western Conference teams

Acquisitions

On Wednesday, Real Salt Lake acquired Ecuadorian forward Joao Plata from Toronto FC in exchange for a second round pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft; Plata has already joined his new team who is currently in training camp in Southern California.
 
Also adding to their roster, Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Monday the acquisition of 29 year-old Japanese attacking midfielder Daigo Kobayashi. Kobayashi most recntly played for Shimizu S-Pulse of the Japanese J1 League, making 17 appearances and helping the team reach the league cup final in 2012.
 
Preseason
 
With two weeks into preseason, scrimmages are underway. The Colorado Rapids, San Jose Earthquakes, Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders, Sporting Kansas City, Houston Dynamo and Vancouver Whitecaps are participating in the Desert Friendlies from Jan. 29-Feb. 5.
 
THe Colorado Rapids have had a rough time in preseason, falling 3-1 to the Portland Timbers in their first scrimmage and 1-0 loss to the Houston Dynamo on Thursday. Fans can see more of the Rapids on February 15 when Chivas USA face the squad as part of the Las Vegas Pro Soccer Challenge. 
 
 
After defeating the Rapids in their first scrimmage, Portland took a 1-0 loss to Kansas City on Friday. Up next, the Timbers will face Seattle on Tuesday, Feb. 5. 
 
Whitecaps FC opened preseason on a high note, defeating the New England Revolution 4-1 in their first scrimmage. The Whitecaps will look to continue their perfomance facing Houston on Saturday in Tucson. Also opening preseason on the right foot, San Jose defeated Houston  2-0 in their first preseason match on Tuesday; they will face the Rapids this Saturday in the second preseason match.
 
Across the hall, the LA Galaxy First Team defeated the U.S. U17 National Team 5-0 on Friday and will face the LA Blues in the upcoming week.
