Training Report: Preparing for Gangwon FC
The rain and the cold weather did not stop Chivas USA in the final training session before Saturday’s scrimmage against Korean side Gangwon FC. The Goats enter the match unbeaten in preseason; Chivas took a 1-1 draw against Chicago Fire on Tuesday.
Starting off with a light jog, the Red-and-White worked on fitness and endurance. The team focused on finishing plays off corner kicks. (Click here for a clip compilation). Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy made his return to goal this week and could possibly make his preseason debut in Saturday’s game against Gangwon FC.
Who is Gangwon FC?
Hailing from South Korea, Gangwon FC plays in the country’s top tier league, the K-League. Gangwon joined the league in the 2009 season; last season, the South Korean squad finished in 14th place (of 16) with a record of 14-23-7 (W-L-T).
The South Korean side has been in California for preseason for about a month. On Thursday, Gangwon fell 3-0 to Mexican Liga MX defending champion Club Tijuana. After the match against Chivas USA on Saturday, Gangwon is scheduled to face the LA Galaxy. Gangwon will play their first match of the year in the K-League on Saturday, March 2, same day as Chivas USA’s opening match.
