In a special training session, Chivas USA welcomed long-time fan, and birthday girl Mireya Lopez and her daughter Alexis down to the field for Monday morning’s practice. Before kicking off training, the team congratulated Lopez on her birthday before starting things up.

The team also welcomed a new trialist to camp: Julio Morales (pictured above). The 19-year old San Jose, Calif. native joined the Red-and-White Monday morning; he most recently played for U20 team of sister club Chivas de Guadalajara.

Coach Chelis took advantage of Monday’s training to prepare the team for Tuesday’s scrimmage against Chicago Fire, its first MLS opponent in the preseason. The Red-and-White is currently unbeaten this year, defeating UC Irvine and SC Storm 4-1.

“Ball recovery and finishing the play; that’s something that needs to come out better for us tomorrow because this is the third time that we put it to the test,” said Chelis.

“At the end of the day, we have to over impose on everything,” Chelis added. “The season is going to be much tougher than tomorrow’s rival, who is also in training. I don’t care about the final score, what I care about is continuing to build the team’s confidence.”

The match against the Fire is scheduled to kick-off at 11:30 a.m. in The Home Depot Center’s Track and Field Stadium. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Red-and-White; entry and parking are free of cost.
