Youth Academy prepares for State Cup
Although they might be on break from the Southern California Development Soccer League, Chivas USA’s Youth Academy is participating in various tournaments throughout SoCal in January. The U8-U11 squads will use these tournaments to prepare for the State Cup that begins Saturday, February 9. Schedules are yet to be determined.
Starting off the year, the Red-and-White U8-U11 teams will take part of the two-day 2013 Celtic Cup that kicks off Saturday, January 12. All games will be played in the San Bernardino Sports Complex. The following week, the squads will participate in the Real So Cal’s Copa Real Invitational scheduled for January 19-21 on the campuses of Pierce College in Woodland Hills and Cal State Northridge.
Chivas USA’s U8 season in the SCDSL has been nothing but phenomenal, holding a 6-1-0 (W-L-T) record. In early November, the young Goats defeated Arsenal FC 13-0 with hat tricks by Bryan Velasquez and Favian Vasquez. The U9s have also had a good season in the SCDSL, defeating South Bay Force 1-0 in their last match, good enough to hold a 7-1-2 league record. Meanwhile, the U10s are one of the most entertaining teams in the Academy. They currently hold a 8-1-1 record; former Chivas USA forward Juan Pablo Angel’s son Tomas Angel is on the roster for the squad and leads in the team with 13 goals scored.
Also participating in the tournaments, the Red-and-White U11 squad have not drawn this season, holding a 7-2-0 record and sit on top of the general standings. In nine games played, young Goat Diego Lopez has scored a total of 14 goals, leading in the squad.
Not staying behind, the U14 team will participate in the Legends FC Cup that will take place January 19-21 in Ayala Sports Park in Chino Hills and Veterans Park in Pomona. Led by Coach Hugo Perez, Chivas USA’s U14 squad is currently in fourth place in the Southwest Division standings with a record of 7-2-1. In their last match, the young Goats defeated Exiles SC 2-0.
