Chivas USA Youth Teams U8-U11 teams began their participation in this weekend's two-day Celtic Cup tournament on Saturday morning. With the Southern California Development Soccer League over, the youth squads prepare for their participation in State Cup, scheduled to begin Saturday, February 9.
The U9 squad kicked-off bright and early as they took on Golden State. With goals from Christian Torres and Johnathan Lemus, the young Goats were able to earn a 2-2 draw with their first opponents. Shortly after their first match, the U9s faced the host team Celtic Hoops and were able to earn their first victory, defeating the squad 5-3. The U9s will next face Beach FC Sunday morning, and will await opponent in the tournament semifinals.
The U10s followed in the same steps as their younger teams, earning a 1-1 draw in their first match against Irvine Strikers, with goal from Aimar Cuevas. In their second match, the young Goats defeated Colton America 5-2. Next up, the U10s will face Scripps United on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 10:50 a.m., with their final match kicking off at 1:50 p.m. on the same day.
Chivas USA's U11s kicked off on the right foot, earning their first two victories in the tournament. The young Goats began the tournament facing Real So Cal and earned a 2-1 win, with goals from Victor Perez and Diego Lopez. In their second match, the U11s faced the San Diego Hotspurs and earned a 4-0 win against the Southern California squad. The U11s will face Milan, Sunday at 7:50 a.m. in San Bernandino, before playing their semi-final match against a team yet to be determined.
The U8 squad also took part of the tournament, playing under the U9 category. In their first match, the young Goats defeated the LA Blues 10-9 and will continue action in the tournament on Sunday.
