On Tuesday morning, Chivas USA's coaching staff hit the phones to take part of another chapter of the MLS Supplemental Draft. The Goats selected local California talent, taking Jose Diaz of University of California, Riverside, Joe Franco from Cal State Northridge and Paul Islas from Fresno Pacific University. While Chivas USA began preseason camp on Friday, Jan. 18, the majority of Western Conference kicked off camp on Monday.
San Jose will head to Tucson, Arizona for preseason after beginning their camp in Santa Clara on Monday, holding scrimmages against Eastern Conference teams New England Revolution and Houston Dynamo.
Mid-week, Chivas USA traded Nick LaBrocca's rights to Colorado Rapids in exchange for midfielder Eric Avila's rights. Fans from both teams will be able to see their former players when Chivas USA face Colorado Rapids in preseason as part of the Las Vegas ProSoccer Challenge Scheduled for Friday, Feb. 15 in Sam Boyd Stadium. The Rapids also announced the acquisition of 18 year-old Cameronian international Charles Eloundou.
Making changes of their own, FC Dallas announced that they waived Ricard Vilar and James Marcelin. On Tuesday, Seattle Sounders FC made forward Fredy Montero's loan to Colombia's Millonarios. In Montero's last appearance against Chivas USA in The Home Depot Center, the Colombian helped the Sounders earn a victory with hat trick and assists.
On Wednesday, MLS announced the groundbreaking, multi-year partnership with USL Pro that will consist of the development of professional players and establish a foundation for future collaboration.
