Get to know: Coach Gonzalez
Everyone saw Chivas USA goalkeepers Dan Kennedy & Tim Melia on the field doing what they do, but what about the man behind their success? Get to know more about goalkeeper coach Daniel Gonzalez.
Coach Gonzalez returns to the Red-and-White for his fourth season with the club after joining in 2010. The Argentine began his soccer career with Colegio La Salle Rosario in 1975 before joining Rosario Central of the Argentine First Division. Also a member of the Argentine U-20 National Team, Gonzalez moved to the U.S. in 1982, playing for the NASL’s Ft. Lauderdale Strikers for two seasons, the Canton Invaders, until finishing his career with the Memphis Jackals of the USISL in 1996.
Since the 2012 season concluded, Coach Gonzalez has been coming in to Chivas USA’s offices everyday to continue working for the preseason. During the holiday season, he travelled to Argentina to visit family and friends, scout and play in Rosario Central’s All-Star Game. The match consisted of the current Rosario players against the retired players, and although Gonzalez played in the second half, Gonzalez’ squad fell 3-2.

*He has two kids; a daughter named Cody (21) and son, Thiago (5).
*Just like Dan Kennedy, Coach Gonzalez earned many honors and titles. In 1981, he received an honor for less goals allowed & was named Goalkeeper of the Week/Month on various occasions,
*Won a championship with Canton Invaders in 1989-90 season; they held a record of 45 wins and five losses, record that lead them to an induction to the Soccer Hall of Fame
*Most fond memory is the birth of his daughter
*In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his son, eating his wife’s cooking (his favorite dish is milanesa de pollo), going to casinos and playing golf.
