Match History: Chivas USA vs. Columbus Crew
On Saturday, March 2, 2013, Chivas USA will kick-off its ninth MLS season hosting Eastern Conference team Columbus Crew in The Home Depot Center. Not only will this match be the first of the season, but new coach Jose Luis Sanchez Solá will be leading the team in his first league match. RECORD VS. COLUMBUS
September 19, 2012 was the last time Chivas USA faced Columbus Crew, match which resulted in a dramatic, last minute, 1-0 loss for the Red-and-White in Columbus Crew Stadium. The last time the two squads met up in The Home Depot Center it was April 9, 2011, a scoreless draw for the Goats and Crew.
Overall, the Goats have maintained hegemony over the Crew in The Home Depot Center, holding a 5-1-1 (W-L-T) record for an overall 6-5-4 record. At home, the Red-and-White have scored 11 goals against the Crew, receiving only six.
LAST GOAL SCORED
Midfielder Jorge Villafana scored the last goal in favor of Chivas USA against the Crew back in May 28, 2011. Villafana’s performance in that game not only helped the Goats earn a 3-3 draw, but he also helped maintain the score and became a very dangerous player on the pitch. In the 57th minute of, Villafana kicked the ball passed Crew Goalkeeper William Hesmer from the right flank off a pass by Ben Zemanski to give the Goats its third goal of the match.

HOME OPENERS
In its nine years in the league, the Red-and-White has hosted the first match of the season in eight occasions. Overall, the Goats have a 3-4-1 record, but have scored more goals (10) than it has received (nine). Despite that, Chivas USA has not been able to win their first game of the season since 2009 when they defeated Colorado Rapids 2-1. Will the 2013 season kick-off break the streak?
