Recap: Youth Clásico

Chivas U17/18 fall to Galaxy ; U15/16 Goats victorious over LA

It was a bright and sunny Sunday as Chivas USA Youth Teams faced off for the seventh time in U.S. Soccer Development Academy history. Chivas' U17/18 match fell 3-1 to LA Galaxy U17/18, while the U15/16 Goats took a clear 2-0 victory over Galaxy U15/16.

The Red-and-White U17/18 squad kicked off the Youth Clásico at 10 a.m. in The Home Depot Center's University Field 2. Early in the game, the U17 team's top goal scorer Daniel Moreno scored his fourth goal of the season, and the first in the match, to give Chivas the lead in the 11th minute. Three minutes later, the Galaxy responded with the equalizer by Justin Dhillon after a shot in the 18-yard line. As the match continued, Chivas continued attacking and looking for the second of the match, maintaining the majority of the possession of the ball.
In the few times the Galaxy moved forward, it was Galaxy's Dhillon that maintained a good match-up with Chivas' Esteban Llamosa, who was not allowing the LA player to move forward. Before the end of the first half, the Galaxy was able to push another ball past Chivas goalkeeper Jake McGuire off a freekick. The final goal of the match came in the 83rd minute of the match as McGuire attempts to clear a ball but the ball fumbles and Galaxy puts it into the back of the net for a final 3-1 score. Up next, Chivas U17/18 team will face Pateadores U17/18 Team next Sunday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. at Claremont McKenna College.
Shortly after the end of the U18 match, Chivas USA's U15/16 match faced the LA youth team. Caleb Calvert opened up the scoreboard in the 13th minute of the match as he headed the ball into the back of the net off a cross, converting his fourth goal of the season. The Galaxy continuously searched for the equalizer with several shots throughout the match, but as the game came to a close, Daniel Crisostomo scored the second goal for Chivas in stoppage time. With the win, the young Goats move up to fifth place in the Southwest Division standings. Up next, the U15 squad will face Pateadores U15/16 squad in Claremont McKenna College next Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1:30 p.m.
