The SuperClásico is back and it doesn't exactly involve the First Teams. Chivas USA's U15/16 and U17/18 squads will face LA Galaxy's Youth ranks this Sunday in The Home Depot Center's University Field 2 as part of the fourth match of U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) Western Division. Up first, the U17/18 squads will face off at 10 a.m. followed by U15/16 teams at 12:30 p.m., both games in the same location.
Chivas USA U15/16 squad will be looking to move up in the Western Division, as they currently sit in 7th place with 0.67 points, same points as the Galaxy youth squad, but due to goal differential, sit one spot below. The Red-and-White U15/16 squad hold a 1-2-3 (W-L-T) record with the Galaxy. The last match between the two clubs ended in a 1-1 draw. Chivas' U15/16 enter the match with a tough 7-2 loss against Real Salt Lake Arizona on Sept. 29, while the Galaxy were also defeated, a 2-1 loss to Arsenal FC.
"Anytime you play the Galaxy, it's a big game," said Chivas USA U16 Head Coach Mike Munoz. "I think the players want to prove to themselves that the game against RSL was a fluke and they dont want to let it happen again. They've put in two good weeks of training and I think they're attitude and their mentality is where it needs to be."
The young squad counts with members of the U.S. Youth National Teams including Alejandro Vergara, Hugo Arellano, Adonis Amaya, Joshua Perez, Bradford Jamieson, and Malcolm Jones. Forward Jorge Ruiz
is the only current Chivas Academy maximum goal scorer against the Galaxy after notching two goals in the 2011-2012 campaign and being named USSDA's Player of the Week. Joshua Perez may only be 14, but his abilities on the field have promoted him to a higher age group. But a solid member of the Red-and-White U15/16 squad is Jeffrey Quezada, who has played every minute of every match this and last season.
Meanwhile, Chivas USA's U17/18 team will look to remain on top of the Western Division facing the Galaxy's U17/18 team. The young Goats maintain a record of 2-2-2 (W-L-T) with the Galaxy. The last meet between the two clubs was in February 18th of this year when both squads earned a 1-1 draw. The Red-and-White enter the match undefeated in their age group; the last match ended in a scoreless draw with Real Salt Lake Arizona. The Galaxy were able to win their last match, a 3-2 victory over Arsenal FC.
For Sunday's match, the U17/18 squad will count with First Team midfielder Marky Delgado, who signed a homegrown player contract in early april and has already made his MLS debut. Academy forward Romario Lomeli has scored one goal this season, but also notched another in a 3-2 against the Galaxy last season while a member of the U15/16 squad. The squad's current goal scorer is midfielder Daniel Moreno, who in the past three games, has scored three goals.
