International Goats: Jazic and Minda
Chivas USA has been without the services of Ante Jazic and Oswaldo Minda this week in training, as both players are currently with their respective national teams in preparation for Friday’s World Cup qualifiers.
After Sunday’s match, Jazic joined the Canadian National Team in Toronto. The Les Rouges will face Cuba tomorrow at 4:30 p.m PT at BMO Field as part of the third round of CONCACAF’s World Cup qualifiers. The match is a must-win for Jazic and his teammates as they currently sit in third place in Group C, behind Panama and Honduras. The defender has started for Canada in all eight World Cup qualifiers. This match will be televised on Sportsnet One.
While the Canadians and Hondurans are tied with seven points a-piece, due to goal differential the Hondurans lead. A win for Canada, and a loss for Honduras against Panama, will put the Canadians in second place, increasing the team’s chances to qualify for the hexagonal. The top two teams of each group automatically move onto the final round of qualifying.
Minda and the Ecuadorian National Team will be facing Chile at 2 p.m. PT in Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa in Quito, Ecuador. Both teams enter the match desperate for points. Ecuador sits in third place of the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying standings with 13 points, tied with Colombia, but due to goal differential, sit one below. Last month, Ecuador travelled to Uruguay drawing 1-1, with Minda playing the full 90 minutes. Meanwhile, Chile sits in fifth place with 12 points, one spot out of qualification, as the top four teams automatically qualify for the 2014 World Cup.
Who ya got? Any predictions?
