Chivas USA players, ChivaGirls and guests hit the green on Monday for the club’s 6th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Rancho Park Golf Course in Los Angeles. This year, the Red-and-White partnered with the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles, IMEBecas and Loyola Marymount University to help raise funds for scholarships destined for Hispanic students of the university. Former Chivas USA captain Ramon Ramirez and former Super Bantamweight boxing champion Israel Vasquez were among the invited guests.

“The best thing is that we earned $150,000 for a scholarship fund for Hispanic and Latino students at LMU,” said Luis Rivera, director of community relations for Chivas USA. “At Chivas, it’s always about giving back and we’re about the community so thanks to all our partners and we hope to see them next year.”

With the money raised at the tournament, Chivas USA will help 25 students from LMU cover a full year of tuition.

“Our president is really big on diversity, so when our students are on scholarships, they produce the tuition amount so they’re covered for the full year,” said Cynthia Gonzalez, director of development for the LMU Latino Alumni Association.

Players and guests began arriving to the golf course as early as 9 a.m. for a 10:30 a.m. shotgun start. At the end of the day, the winners on the course were Alejandro Kahan for the longest drive and the Signology team for finishing 11 under; the latter received four field side seats to a Chivas USA game.

But the night did not end out on the course. Players and guests attended  a beach party on the course where they enjoyed food, drinks and entertainment by local comedians including Carlos Loma, Rick Izquieta and Cisco. A live auction lead by ChivaDarell put autographed jerseys from the Los Angeles Lakers’ Pau Gasol and Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez into the hands of three lucky bidders.
