Seven of eight teams kicked-off action in their respective leagues this past weekend

The 2012/13 Chivas USA Youth Academy season kicked off this past weekend as 7 of our 8 teams began action in U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Here are the results from this very successful weekend:

US Soccer Development Academy team results
First up was our B17/18 Chivas USA Academy team as they faced two MLS sides from the North West. On Saturday, Chivas faced the Portland Timbers; it was a tough start of the season for the Portland side which fell to the young Red-and-White 5-0.  Danny Moreno led the young goats with two goals, scoring in the 19th and 32nd minute. Julio Chavez opened the scoring in the 11 minute with a great individual effort. Romario Lomeli added another in the 53rd minute and Michael Gonzalez finished the game with a great strike from a distance in the 63rd minute.  Final result: B17/18 Chivas USA 5 vs. Portland Timbers 0
On Sunday the B17/18 Chivas team started where they left off the previous day, this time against the Seattle Sounders youth club. The first goal of the match came in the first 30 seconds of the match as Julio Chavez finished a great build up starting from Alex Sanchez from the left back position. Sanchez found Romario Lomeli streaking down the left flank  who then played a great ball across to oncoming Chavez who slotted it home.  The Sounders equalized minutes later with a great individual effort but it was the young Goats who controlled most of the match with good possession.  Sounders penetrated the Chivas defense several times, but Jake McGuire came up with some big saves to keep Chivas in the match.  Ever De Latorre, Danny Moreno and Sueno winner Armando Flores all added a goal each in the 4-2 victory over the Sounders.  Jake McGuire had a stellar game and was named Man of the Match. Final result: B17/18 Chivas USA 4 vs. Seattle Sounders 2
The B15/16 Chivas USA Academy team opened the season with a 2 - 2 draw with Portland Timbers. Although the Rojiblanco's controlled the possession throughout the game, and created a number of chances, they could not score the game winner.  The Timbers were pinned into their half for most of the game and looked to counter against the Goats, but Chivas USA ended up getting a late goal to end the game in a tie. Final result: B15/16 Chivas USA 2 vs. Portland Timbers 2
On Sunday the young Goats were right back at it, this time against Seattle Sounders, controlling the first half with some great possession.  Caleb Calvert opened the scoring in the 14th minute and the B15/16 Chivas USA team had a number of chances in the first half but could not finish their opportunities.  Sounders equalized in the 23rd minute and went ahead just before halftime 2-1.  The second half was wide open and could have gone either way, luckily Chivas USA player Ryo Fujii tied the game up on a great finish just inside the box.  Both teams had chances to win the game, but the game ended in a 2-2 draw. Final result: B15/16 Chivas USA 2 vs. Seattle Sounders 2

SCDSL Competition – Flight One
The B11 Chivas USA team was running on all cylinders as they opened their SCDSL season with a 5-2 win against Pats LA.  Pats LA opened the scoring in the first few minutes of the match but Chivas USA responded with two first half goals from Diego Lopez, and went into halftime up 2-1. The junior Goat’s transition into attack was no match for the Pats LA midfield and defense and Victor Perez led the attack with three second half goals.  Pats LA had some good spells of possession but never threatened the Chivas goalkeeper Martin Delgado.  It was a great start to the league season.  Final result: B11 Chivas USA 5 vs. Pateadores LA 2
Chivas USA B15 Pre-Academy beat FC Golden State BU15 Platinum on Saturday in a hard tough battle 2-0.  The game was tied 0-0 at half.  However, in the second half the team had better possession and more opportunities.  The boys performed the last 40 minutes stronger than the first 40 minutes.  Ivan Gutierrez scored both goals and both goals were assisted by Dylan Juarez in the 49th minute and 84th minute of play for their first win in league.  Next week they face Exiles Black @ LA Harbor College @ 9:25 am on Saturday, September 15th.
