U15's capture first championship
Chivas USA’s U15 Team took a 2-1 victory over Toronto FC in overtime to win the 2012 Generation adidas Cup last Thursday in Seattle, Washington.
Toronto FC took the lead through a penalty kick in the 55th minute, but the young Goats responded shortly with a goal from Jorge Ruiz off a rebound. The young Goats fought until the last minute of regulation time as Daniel Crisostomo went passed Toronto’s defense in a 50-yard run in the last minute only to shoot the ball wide of the goal.
After the end of regulation time, the match went to two five minute periods of overtime. As the Red-and-White continued to push forward and look for the winning goal, a handball inside the box by Toronto defenders led to a penalty kick in favor of Chivas USA. Jorge Ruiz notched the winning goal for the Goats, helping the team get the final win in a seven-day long tournament.
The road to the final was not easy. The first match for the Goats ended in a 1-1 draw with the Houston Dynamo side, and after penalties, the Texan team took the two points. The team then came back the next day to earn a 4-0 win against Real Salt Lake. After defeating Seattle Sounders 3-2 in the group phase, the team went on to take a 2-0 victory over Chicago Fire in the semi-final match.
