Defender Ante Jazic will be available for selection in Chivas USA’s Wednesday game at New York and Saturday’s home game against Seattle before departing to join the Canadian National Team. The 36-year-old Halifax native will join a 22-man training camp Sunday, before looking to add to his 28 national team appearances in the following games:
- Canada vs. United States - June 3rd, Toronto (International Friendly)
- Canada vs. Cuba – June 8th, Havana (FIFA World Cup Qualifier)
- Canada vs. Honduras – June 12th, Toronto (FIFA World Cup Qualifier)
"It's always an honor to represent your country. I'm excited to be part of the group again. We had a good run the last qualifying campaigns to get to this stage and I'm looking forward to these games against the States, Cuba, and Honduras," commented Chivas USA defender Ante Jazic. "I'm looking forward to join the group again, I think we have a good shot of qualifying."
Midfielder Oswaldo Minda will depart for international duty following Chivas USA’s Wednesday game against the New York Red Bulls. The 28-year-old has 15 caps for Ecuador, and will be looking to help his country continue their strong start to FIFA World Cup qualifying in the following games:
- Ecuador vs. Argentina – June 2nd, Buenos Aires (FIFA World Cup Qualifier)
- Ecuador vs. Colombia – June 10th, Quito (FIFA World Cup Qualifier)
"I'm very happy and honored because of the fact that I received the call from the [Ecuador] National Team representatives. I'm having a great time playing soccer in the United States and hopefully I can continue playing at the level that I have been doing it," commented Chivas USA midfielder Oswaldo Minda.
With news of forward Juan Agudelo’s call-up to the United States National Team on Sunday, Jazic and Minda become the second and third Chivas USA players to receive call-ups this week. Reached with the team in New York, head coach Robin Fraser spoke about the latest call-ups for Minda and Jazic:
"Congratulations to both of them. They have played well throughout the season and it's just a reflection of the kind of the hard work they put in day in and day out. For Ante still to be in Canada's plans at his age it's just really a testament of what a good professional he is and how well he takes care of himself and continuous to play well. And for Oswaldo, obviously an exciting time, World Cup qualifying for Ecuador, I know this is a goal of his and I'm excited that he's in the mix."
The Rojiblancos look to win their fourth road match of the season when they travel to Red Bull Arena to face the New York Red Bulls, Wednesday, May 23, at 4:00 pm (PT).
