The latest update from the Chivas USA Youth Academy

Chivas USA U18 Academy
Chivas USA U18’s came into Saturday’s game versus Arsenal FC sitting two points behind the LA Galaxy. With Ben Spencer and Marco Delgado training with the first team up in Portland, Oregon, the goats were a little short handed. Chivas USA took the lead in the 20th minute with a strike from Joel Martinez. The first half wasn’t filled with good moments as both teams struggled. In the second half the game opened up for the 18’s. Goals from Nicholas Escalante and Rene Santos secured the victory as Chivas USA jumped back into first place with a 3-2 win.

Chivas USA U16 Academy
Chivas USA U16’s came out slow in Saturday’s game versus Arsenal FC. The U16’s were also short handed as they were missing three players due to youth national team duty. Joshua Perez, Malcolm Jones and Jorge Ruiz are all in camp this week at the HDC. One player who took advantage of the opportunity was Caleb Calvert. Caleb is currently listed as a development player on the U16’s roster and made most of his debut by netting a hat trick. Unfortunately, it was not enough as Chivas USA fell to Arsenal FC 4-3.

Both teams play Irvine Strikers this Saturday at Pasadena HS.

Chivas USA Under 9 Youth Academy
This past weekend concluded the semi-finals and finals of Cal South State Cup, with the 2003's losing Sunday in the finals to FC Golden State by a score of 3-2. On Saturday the 03's beat Irvine Strikers by a score of 4-0 in the semi-finals. Aimar Cuevas started the scoring with a 20 yard blast into the right upper corner of the net. Tomy Angel followed up the first goal with a goal of his own heading the ball in from Cuevas cross. Minute later Joel Trejo made it 3-0 with a goal from the top of the 18 yard box. Collin Canales finished the scoring in the 2nd half giving the 03's a 4-0 win and a trip to Sunday’s finale.

In the finals the 2003's starting the game with a controlled attack but gave up a goal 18 minutes in on a left footed shot by the Golden State center mid. Shortly into the 2nd half Golden State scored a second goal and minutes later scored a third taking a 3-0 lead with 10 minutes to play. Instead of giving up, the 2003's fought back with Tomy Angel scoring and giving Chivas and its large fans attendance much needed energy. With 5 minutes to play Joel Trejo scored bringing the 03's to within a goal and setting off a furious pace to the final 5 minutes. Despite several attacking opportunities the 03's could not get its 3rd and game tying goal, losing for only the 3rd time this season and finishing the prestigious State Cup tournament as finalist.
