PORTLAND, ORE. – Chivas USA concluded its preseason with a 5-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes last night at JELD-WEN Field in its third and last match of the Portland Tournament.

Chivas USA created the first scoring opportunity in the 6th minute when Laurent Courtois crossed Juan Pablo Angel whose shot was deflected to a corner kick by San Jose defender and captain Ramiro Corrales. Courtois took the corner and placed the ball inside the box, where forward Casey Townsend was close to scoring with a header but the Earthquakes' Ike Opara cleared the area. In the 7th minute, Townsend faced the Earthquakes' goalkeeper John Busch on a one-on-one but Busch blocked and controlled the ball to take away Townsend’s goal opportunity. Five minutes later, Angel received and controlled the ball, headed it to Townsend who immediately shot, but Busch was attentive and deflected the ball for a corner kick.

The first goal came in the 27th minute through San Jose forward Chris Wondolowski, who attacked from the left side, entered the box with the ball assisted by Shea Salinas, and with a left-footed shot, beat Dan Kennedy who dove to his left but the ball went into the back of the net.

In the 52nd minute, a corner kick by Salinas went to the far post where midfielder Marvin Chavez deflected the ball to Ramiro Corrales, whose header found defender Justin Morrow who headed the ball inside Kennedy's net for the second goal in for the Earthquakes.

Earthquakes' midfielder Tressor Moreno received a pass from Corrales and beat Kennedy for the third goal for the Earthquakes in the 80th minute. The fourth goal was scored by Sercan Guvenisik, assisted by Moreno, in the 84th minute. San Jose’s fifth goal came in the 88th minute from midfielder Sam Garza, assisted by Guvenisick.

The Goats will now return to Los Angeles and continue preparing for First Kick 2012 against 2011 MLS  Eastern Conference Champions, the Houston Dynamo on Sunday, March 11 at 4 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center.
