Academy player to look out for: Jorge Ruiz
The Chivas USA Youth Development Academy’s objective is to identify talented young soccer players and prepare them for the Red-and-White First Team. But the development of the player includes both on and off the field preparation. While a player might do well on the field, Chivas USA encourages educational advancement.
Among many stellar young players is Jorge Ruiz, forward for the Chivas USA U16 team that is part of the US Soccer Development Academy (USSDA). The Mission Hills native has currently played in 17 matches (10 starts) for the U16 squad and is tied as top goal scorer with the team after having scored 11 goals, and being the lead goal scorer in the country that was born in 1997. Aside from leading in team statistics, Ruiz also stands out academically. He currently attends John F. Kennedy High School in Granada Hills, where he holds a 3.2 overall GPA and is taking all Honor courses. Born October 20, 1997, Ruiz received his first call up to the U.S. U15 National Team for the squad’s March 2012 training camp.
