It’s the moment thousands of elementary school kids, as well as teachers and parents have been waiting for. The moment a Chivas USA school bus comes rolling through the gates of their school and stops right in front of them. Kids start yelling as they see special guest readers, the ChivaGirls, the ChivaFighter, and of course, the Lorax character from the upcoming Universal Pictures film “The Lorax” exit the bus. It just made their school day much simpler and happier.

The first school on the map? Esperanza Elementary School in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, by far largest elementary school in Los Angeles County that counts with 900 students. The first date included special presentations from Univision’s KMEX weather anchor Guillermo Quiroz as well as local rock band Upground.

After a small assembly, guest readers were split into groups which then read the students Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax,” an animated adventure that follows the journey of a 12-year-old boy as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it, he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy, yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.

“This year the tour came back better than ever and we are very proud of our front office staff for helping bring the message of literacy to so many students and families,” said Chivas USA’s Senior Manager of Community Relations Nadia Gonzalez. “We can only hope to keep bringing the bus tour to more and more schools!”

Readers participating in Chivas USA’s Read-and-Score week-long bus tour include Kevin Baxter from the Los Angeles Times, ESPN Deportes anchor David Faitelson, Univision’s KMEX Channel 34 sports anchor Enrique Gutierrez and weather anchor Guillermo Quiroz, Victor Cordero and Iran Daniel from Telemundo Channel 52, 107.1 Super Estrella host Orlando Rodriguez, and Exitos 93.9 host JC Cuevas. Also participating are Universal Music bands La Santa Cecilia and Upground.

Other elementary schools participating in the Red-and-Score bus tour include: Thomas Jefferson Elementary in Anaheim, John Stallings Elementary in Corona, Washington Elementary in Redondo Beach, and Fries Elementary in Wilmington. Each school will also receive a donation of books for their library, made possible through the support of Lectorum Publications, Inc., and the National Education Association (NEA).
