Chivas USA impacts Montreal 1-0

Casey Townsend scores first goal with the Red-and-White

Chivas USA took a 1-0 victory over MLS Expansion club Montreal Impact this afternoon at University Field 2 at The Home Depot Center. The only goal in the match came in the second minute as Ryan Smith cross passed the ball to MLS SuperDraft selectee Casey Townsend, who was able to kick the ball past Montreal’s goalkeeper Greg Sutton and into the back of the net.

Also in the match, Ecuadorian forward Miller Bolaños made his debut with the team and played for the first 30 minute half of the match. Both teams were very active throughout the match and created scoring opportunities as well as defended their goal. In the second half of the game, Chivas USA trialist Cesar Romero had a head-to-head with Montreal’s second-half goalkeeper Evan Bush to score the Red-and-White’s second goal, but the ball was saved by the Impact’s goalie. Next up for Chivas USA is a scrimmage against LA Galaxy this Thursday at 11 a.m. PT at The Home Depot Center.
