Chivas USA fall to AIK

The Red-and-White fall 2-0 in first match of Portland Tournament

PORTLAND, Ore. – Chivas USA fell 2-0 against Sweden’s AIK from the Allsvenskan First Division in its first match as part of three-match tournament at JELD-WEN Field in Portland. Chivas USA will now prepare for Thursday's match against host team Portland Timbers.

AIK’s forward Viktor Lundberg opened up the scoring for the Swedish team in the 40th minute after receiving a pass from Atakora. Early into the second half, Atakora scored his a goal of his own for AIK as he surpassed the Red-and-White defense, striking the ball past Chivas USA’s Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy in the 52nd minute.

Despite controlling the ball in the majority of the match and creating several goal scoring opportunities, the Red-and-White’s shots at goal were blocked by the Swedish team’s defensive line. Venezuelan forward Alejandro Moreno and Ecuadorian forward Miller Bolaños generated a big opportunity for Chivas USA in the 26th minute as Moreno passed a ball to Bolaños who failed to control the ball and lost it to AIK's defender Fallman.
