Upcoming matches and results from the past weekend

SATURDAY, January 28th
USSDA U17/18
Chivas USA 1 vs Real So Cal 0
The 18’s faced off versus one of their conference rivals from the valley this past Saturday.  Both teams tried to make a game of it, but the blistering winds took a toll on the game.  The goats continued to press late in the game.  After a poor clearance by the home team, Johnathen Kupperman cleaned it up by playing the ball down the line to Anthony Dhemming.  Anthony took on his defender and played a ball across the six-yard box, where he found Mark Verso, who slotted the ball home for 1-0 victory.   With the victory, Chivas U18’s jumped into 1st place in the So Cal Conference.

USSDA U15/16
Chivas USA 1 vs Real So Cal 1
The U16’s faced similar conditions later in the evening.  In this game, it was all Chivas USA from start to finish.  Chivas USA controlled the possession, but struggled to finish their chances.

The young Goats did have one moment of brilliance rewarded with the ball in the back of the net.  A dozen passes between the midfielders and forwards highlighted the movement as Chivas USA found an opening in the Real So Cal defense.

The scrambling and retreating defenders gifted some space to young Jorge Ruiz who blasted a shot off a defender's shin. The forward, who has been exceptional the last two weeks, collected the block and calmly slotted the rebound into the net.

The U16’s sit in 3rd place in the So Cal Conference, just three points behind first place with one game in hand.

The 2003's beat Real SoCal Blue, one of the top teams in Southern California in the finals 3-1. The team started the weekend with a 7-1 win over YASA SC and were lead by coaches Greg Vanney and Mike Munoz.

In the afternoon game the 2003's beat a tough FRAM team 6-1 to win their group and gain a semifinal match with Manhattan Beach Sand and Surf.  After a slow first half start and a 2-1 lead, the boys picked up the speed and scored 5 goals in the 2nd half of a 7-1 win.  This game was highlighted by Tomy Angel's left footed bicycle kick that found its way in the top left corner of the goal.

In the finals the 2003's would face Real SoCal Blue, arguably a top team in Southern California. After going down 1-0 in the first minute the boys charged back with two goals taking a 2-1 lead at half. A second goal in the 2nd half gave the boys a two goal lead and finished the game at 3-1.
