Chivas USA Youth Academy Update - November 28th

Chivas USA's U9 Youth Academy particpated in the Irvine Nike Harvest Cup

Chivas USA‘s Under 9 Youth Academy was the only team in action over the Thanksgiving weekend.  They competed in the Irvine Nike Harvest Cup down in Irvine, CA.

The Under 9 Youth Academy team is one of the top five teams in Southern California.  They proved to be the best team over a three day period.  Going into their last pool play game they needed to win the game but not concede more than two goals in order to advance to the finals on Sunday morning.  They came out determined from the start and scored two early goals in the first 5 minutes of the game.  After conceded a late goal before the half, everyone stepped up defensively and shut down LA Premiere’s attack.

In the finals, Chivas USA faced a very tough Irvine Strikers team who won Bracket B of the tournament.  After an early goal by Alfonso Becerra, Irvine scored to tie the game 1-1 before the half.  In the second half Chivas USA came out determined to take home the championship.  Two goals from Tommy Anjel and one goal from Frankie Alvarez proved to be the difference.  Every player performed with great determination and urgency.  Every opposing coach had nothing but positive and exciting things to say about the under 9 team.  Congratulations to all the players and parents on a great weekend.
