CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, October 18, 2011) – Chivas USA won 1-0 against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in an MLS Reserve League match at The Home Depot Center’s Track and Field stadium this Tuesday afternoon. A physical match from the start; the Goats had an early sub when defender Simon Elliott suffered a thigh injury in the 10th minute. The Chivas USA youth academy players were also present for this match as well as a pair of trialist players. Victor Estupiñan scored his 4th goal in reserves league play placing him in a tie for 6th place for goal scorers. With this win the Goats reserves record is now 3-3-3 placing them in 4th place in the west division with one pending reserves match set for next Sunday October 23.

This match featured a special addition to the center back position for the Red and White, as assistant coach Greg Vanney returned to the pitch for the Goats as a defender and showed no signs of rust despite being retired now nearly three seasons. GK Zach Thornton was on point once again for the Rojiblancos making keys saves and earning him another shutout in his illustrious career.

Referee Magic Laudini dished out a pair of yellow cards in the 36th minute to Chivas USA's Brazilian defender David Junior Lopes and Vancouver's French forward Eric Hassli.  A scuffle developed between the two physical players after a tackle and attempted hand-up from Lopes. Shortly after in the 40th minute, Chivas USA broke the 0-0 tie with a cross from Chris Cortez to Victor Estupiñan, giving Estupiñan his 4th goal of the reserves league season.

Chivas USA Youth Academy players once again had an opportunity to showcase their talent during the match as Esteban Rodriguez entered the match in the 10th minute for injured veteran midfielder for the Goats’ Simon Elliott. Ben Spencer would enter the match in the 70th minute as he subbed forward Pablo Cruz and just a minute later Stephen Copley would substitute David Junior Lopes in the back four.

Chivas USA concludes Reserve League play on Sunday, October 23rd when they host the Seattle Sounders at The Home Depot Center for the final reserves league match of the season.
