Chivas USA Youth Academy Update - October 22nd & 23rd

Results from this past weekend and the upcoming matches

This past week all Academy and Developmental teams were in action. The U18 and U16 USSDA teams had the weekend off as they prepare to travel to Arizona this weekend.  Three U18 Academy players saw action in a reserve match Sunday morning.  Ben Spencer scored his first reserve team goal. Chivas USA rallied to tie the Seattle Sounders 3-3, after going down 3-0 in the first fifteen minutes of the match.   First team assistant coach Greg Vanney scored the equalizer on a free kick with minutes remaining.

On Friday evening, Chivas USA’s U15/U16 took on the Under 15 Youth National Team at the HDC.  Two late goals from Jeffrey Quezada and Edgar Murillio earned Chivas USA the 2-1 win.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 22ND

Chivas USA entered Saturday’s game with a slim two point lead over Surf.  In a very physical match up and even game throughout, Surf managed to get a late goal for the 1-0 win. 

U15’s Chivas USA Academy 2 vs Real So Cal 3

The U15’s faced off against the first place team in U15 Flight I on Saturday.  Chivas started out strong and went ahead on a Omar Hermosillo goal.   Daniel Crisostomo added a penalty kick later in the half as both teams went into the half deadlocked at 2-2.  In the second half, both teams had plenty of chances.  Real So Cal added a late goal, which turned out to be the game winner.  The U15’s sit in third place in Flight I.

U14’s Chivas USA Academy 2 vs LA Galaxy 0

It was a great day for the U14 Academy team, as they beat the LA Galaxy 2-0.  The 14’s save their best performance of the year versus their cross - town rivals.  Chivas USA followed their game plan and stayed disciplined throughout the match.  In first half, Chivas’ goal came from a cross inside the box from Clayton Barnes.  The ball landed in front of Edson Alvarado who finished calmly.  Chivas’ second goal came from Bryan  Rodriguez, who  finished  off a cross from Edson Alvarado.   It was a great defensive effort from all the Chivas USA players.

U9’s Chivas USA Academy take home Chivas USA 5v5 Championship
The 2003's participated in the Chivas 5v5 tournament on Saturday splitting the squad in two different groups.  After 7 games played on the day the 2003's ended the day with a finals victory over the Arlanza U10 boys by a score of 5-1.  The boys gained valuable development playing in small space and fast pace soccer utilizing lots of skill and good combinations.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 23RD

U16’s Chivas USA Academy  5 vs San Diego United 2

After a tough loss on Saturday, Chivas took on the third place team minus a few key starters due to injuries.  The U16’s managed to stay composed and defend as a team.   They were very patient going forward and capitalized on some San Diego United errors in the back.   Everyone played with passion and a the desire to win despite less players.  Edgar Gonzalez had a hat trick and Arturo Soto added two more.  It was a great effort.

 

U15’s Chivas USA Academy 1 vs CZ Elite 0
Ayala Park
Daniel Crisostomo scored his second goal of the weekend as the U15’s beat CZ Elite for the second time this season.  Chivas moved into third place in a very competitive U15 Flight I Division.

Concordia
In an effort to strive and keep developing players, three U14 Academy players were moved up to help the U15 Development team.  The U15’s faced the third place team and battled to the end.

U13’s Chivas USA Development 3 vs Real So Cal 4
Pierce College
After trailing early in the first half 2-0, Chivas rallied and tied up the game just before the half.  Chivas USA went up 3-2, courtesy of a Justin Islands goal.   In the end, Chivas USA couldn’t hold on as Real So Cal scored two late goals to take the victory 4-3.

In their first game versus TVSA Hawks Black, Aaron Abarca scored on a very nice free kick outside the box. In the end the U12’s  were not able to score another goal to get the victory.  It was a hard fought draw.

In their second game of the day, Chivas USA faced off against Patedores YL.  Mathew Sogamoso scored on a breakaway just before the end of the first half.  Once again the Chivas USA players were playing with a lot energy, effort and good attitude. 

Over the weekend there were some special performances by AARON ALBARCA, CAESAR RAMON, DEREK VON PUSCHENDORF, LEO PEREZ, MATHEW SOGAMOSO, MARLON MOLINA and RICKY GUERRA.

Pierce College
On Sunday the 2003's traveled to Woodland Hills for an early morning league game against Real SoCal White.  The 2003's were out of rhythm and suffered a 2-1 loss.  Despite the loss the 2003's continued to improve and progress with development playing in different positions than they normally play.
