Chivas USA Youth Academy Update - October 1st & 2nd

Results from this past weekend and the upcoming matches

Chivas USA Youth teams had plenty of action this weekend.  There were some great individual and team performances throughout the weekend.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1ST

USSDA U17/18’s
Chivas USA 1 vs. LA Galaxy 2
Home Depot Center Track Field
In a game that had plenty of opportunities, Chivas USA and LA Galaxy academies met for the first time at the HDC.  The game started at a frantic pace, and continued throughout the first half.  Going into to halftime the game was tied 0-0.  The second half saw plenty of missed opportunities.  The pace of the game took its toll on the players as both teams used their allotted subs.  Chivas USA tied the game up 1-1, on a Mark Verso strike with 25 minutes left to play.  Chivas couldn’t hold on and LA Galaxy scored late for the 2-1 win.

USSDA U15/16
Chivas USA 3 vs. LA Galaxy 2
Home Depot Center Track Field
The U15/16 saw plenty of goals to a thrilling ending on a great game.  LA Galaxy opened the scoring on a set piece.  Chivas USA came back and leveled the game on a Jorge Ruiz goal just before the half.  With no pressure in the midfield, LA Galaxy was able to get in behind the Chivas defense and were awarded a penalty.  Going into the last 10 minutes of the game Chivas were down 2-1.  Edson Cuevas made it 2-2 and with minutes to play Chivas countered and found Jorge Ruiz in behind the Galaxy defense.  Jorge Ruiz found Romario Lomeli across the six yard box, and back heeled a ball into the bottom left hand corner of the goal for the 3-2 win.

U15’s Chivas USA Academy 1 vs. South Bay Force 1
El Segundo High School
Oscar Palma opened the scoring in the first fifteen minutes of the game.  In a very hectic game with no real action, South Bay Force managed to tie the game up before the half 1-1.  The second half was much of the same.  The game finished 1-1.

U15’s Chivas USA Development 1 vs. Real So Cal 5
North Ranch
Luis Florian had the U15’s loan goal.  With five U14 players playing up in this game, it was a little too much to overcome.  It was a good experience for all the young players.

U13’s Chivas USA Development 0 vs. South Bay Force 2
El Segundo High School
It was not a good day for the U13’s.  They couldn’t put a full game together and dropped the game 2-0 to a good South Bay Force team.

U12’s Chivas USA Development 1 vs. Exiles Red 3
Cal State Dominguez Hills
>On Saturday morning, Chivas USA faced off against Exiles SC Red. Leo Perez scored Chivas’ loan goal.  Both teams had plenty of chances, but the Exiles were more opportunistic in front of goal.  Chivas players put in a great effort versus the first place team.

U9’s Chivas USA Development 2 vs South Bay Force 1
Yukon Elementary
The 2003's played in Torrance this past weekend against South Bay Force and won by a score of 2-1.  Both goals were scored in the first half by Joel Trejo and Danny Vasquez.  The 2003's played very well, displaying great individual ball skill by every player after an intense week of training in the area of 1v1's and individual ball skill.  Bryant Ulloa and Kevin Rodriguez each had outstanding performances this past weekend.  The 2003's have a bye this upcoming weekend.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 2ND

U16’s Chivas USA Academy 2 vs. West Coast 3
Concordia University
The game opened up right from the start.  Arturo Soto received a ball from the right flank and slotted it home past the goalkeeper.  The 16’s controlled most of the match with good ball possession.  In the second half, Edgar Gonzalez put the 16’s up 2-1.  West Coast rebounded and scored two late goals to secure a 3-2 win over Chivas USA.

U15’s Chivas USA Academy 2 vs. Exiles 1
Cal State Dominguez Hills
The U15’s came out and played with urgency.  They created many opportunities with good transition and by getting the ball into wide areas.   After a good build up in the midfield, the ball was played wide to Trey Foresta.  Trey took on his defender and played a great ball across the goal and found Caleb Calvert on the back post for the 1-0 lead.  After giving back a goal on some lazy defending, Chivas USA managed to control the game the rest of the way.  Off of a corner kick, Elan Koenig found the back of the net on a great header.

U15’s Chivas USA Development 1 vs. TVSA Hawks 5
Birdsall in Temecula
Justin Sanatan’s goal was the only bright spot for the U15’s on Sunday, as they drop a 5-1 result to TVSA Hawks.

U14’s Chivas USA Academy  0 vs. Nomads Academy 1
Rancho Mission Viejo
Showcase Game #1

This game turned out to be one of the better matches of the day.  Lots of action from both sides, but Chivas had the run of play for the better part of the match.  They attacked down the flanks with numbers and created plenty of opportunities.  In the end, it wasn’t enough as Nomads came out on top 1-0.

U14’s Chivas USA Academy 1 vs. Nomads SC 0
Rancho Mission Viejo
Showcase Game #2
Despite the hot weather, Chivas came out hard.  They pressed throughout the match, and were rewarded with their hard work with a goal from Jason Ballejo.  Overall, it was a great weekend with plenty of good competition.

U14’s Chivas USA Development  0 vs. Arsenal 1
Ranch Mission Viejo
Showcase Game #1
In their first SCDSL Showcase of the year, Chivas USA took on Arsenal FC.  On a defensive miscue, Chivas went down 1-0.  Chivas had their chances to pull back a goal, but Arsenal was able to control the rest of the match and hold on for the 1-0 win.

U14’s Chivas USA Development  0 vs. Legends 2
Ranch Mission Viejo
Showcase Game #2
In their second game of the SCDSL Showcase, Chivas USA took on Legends from Chino Hills.  They had a number of good scoring opportunities, but were unable to finish their chances.
