Chivas USA Youth Academy Update - October 15th & 16th

Results from this past weekend and the upcoming matches

This past week USSDA U17/18’s Ben Spencer, Marco Delgado and Eric Gonzalez all saw action in a reserve match versus the LA Galaxy.  Marco Delgado started the match and shined in a 2-1 win.  Ben Spencer and Eric Gonzalez also saw action in the win.   In Spain, Under 17 Youth National Team Player Bradford Jamieson saw considerable action during US’ first match vs. Mexico that resulted in a 1-1 tie.

Chivas USA 3 vs Pateadores  0
Vanguard University
The 18’s put together an impressive game on Saturday.  Julio Chavez scored the first goal on a through ball from Esteban Rodriguez.  The second goal came off a scramble in front of the goal area.  Chivas USA had plenty of opportunities to finish, but the Pateadores goalkeeper came up big on several shots.  The ball finally spilled out to Anthony Dheming who calmly tucked it away.  After just being subbed into the game, Mark Verso finished off a cross from Nick Escalente to give Chivas USA a well deserved  3-0 win.  Jake McGuire saved a last minute penalty to give Chivas USA their second consecutive shutout.  Chivas USA sits in second place in the Southern California Conference.

Chivas USA 1 vs Pateadores 0

Vanguard University
In a not so impressive game by both sides, Chivas USA managed to come away with a 1-0.   Romario Lomeli got the goal for Chivas USA.  It was Chivas USA’s third consecutive road win within their conference.  Chivas USa sits in first place in the Southern California Conference.

Melinda Heights
The U16’s started out strong and opened the scoring in the opening minutes of the game.   Edgar Gonzalez and Arturo Soto each tallied a goal each in the first half of play.  Chivas USA controlled the game with some good possession and were never threatened until late in the second half.  In the second half the team began to tire, but they managed to hold on for the 2-1 win.

Chivas USA had a tough game on Saturday versus United FC.  United FC were too much for the 15’s.  While playing a man down, Chiavs USA managed to fight until the end.

The U15’s faced off against their MLS rival on Saturday.  Chivas USA came out flying in the first half and tested the LA goalkeeper right from the start.  Chivas USA outshot the Galaxy 10-1 in the first half.  The team kept up the tempo throughout the half, but could not finish their chances.  In the second half, Chivas USA finally got on the board with a goal from Caleb Calvert.  In the end, it wasn’t enough as Chivas USA fell 2-1 to the LA Galaxy.  In a very spirited game Chivas USA proved to be the better side.

U14’s Chivas USA Academy 1 vs CZ Elite 1

The U14’s faced off against CZ Elite on Saturday morning.  It was a very good game for Chivas USA.   The 14’s created lots of chances, but the CZ Elite goalkeeper came up with some great saves.  Bryan Rodriguez crossed the ball into the box and Jason Ballejo tapped it in.  Chivas USA conceived a goal on a corner kick.  It was a very good game overall by the 14’s.  They are looking forward to next week’s clash with the Galaxy.

The 14’s faced off against the first place Central California Blues.  Chivas USA got off to a slow start and played catch up for the rest of the match.  Chivas USA had plenty of opportunities to get back into the game.  Coach Morales was please with his team’s efforts.

Sebastian Martinez was the loan goal scorer for the U13’s in a tough loss.

U12’s Chivas USA Development 0 vs San Gabriel Valley SC 2

Over the last three weeks Chivas USA 12’s faced off against the top three teams in their division.  Again, today proved to be another tough test for the 12’s.  Chivas USA controlled the first half of play, and created some good chances.  In the second half Chivas USA started to get tired and made some mental mistakes that cost them.  Coach Lucio was very happy with his teams efforts and took some positives out of the last three weeks.

U9’s Chivas USA Academy 10 vs PVSC Exiles 1
Dapplegray Elementary
The 2003's traveled to Palos Verdes to play the PVSC Exiles Black on Saturday and came away with a 10-1 victory.  The 03' displayed great attacking soccer with lots of combination play all over the field.  Bryant Ulloa and Alfonso Becerra both scored on headers in the first half.  AJ Valenciano and Aymar Cuevas each had great games on the day.  The goals were scored by Joel Trejo (3), Alfonso Becerra (2), Collin Canales (2), Bryant Ulloa, Danny Vasquez, and Kevin Rodriguez. Next weekend the 2003's will participate in the Chivas USA 5v5 tournament and travel to Woodland Hills to play Real SoCal White.


U16’s Chivas USA Academy 0 vs West Coast 1
San Juan Capistrano
The 16’s came off a tough win on the road on Saturday.  They faced another tough opponent on Sunday.  This game turned out to be a battle in the midfield.  Both teams had good scoring chances throughout the game.  The West Coast goalkeeper kept his team in the game with three great saves and preserved the 1-0 win for his side.

U15’s Chivas USA Development 0 vs So Cal Infinity 1
The U15’s came into Sunday’s game a bit fatigued and injured.  Alex Zotinca called up four players to help coach Gilberto’s side.  It proved to help as the team looked more energized and created some good scoring opportunities.  In the end, the team played better and came away with a lot of confidence going into next week’s game.

Redondo Union
After a tough loss on Saturday, they came out with good energy and were engaged from the start.  Ruben Rivera opened the scoring for Chivas USA.  Chivas USA continued to press on in the first half.  In the second half they tired out and gave away a few goals late in the game as the team pushed for the win.  Coach Morales was very encouraged by his teams performance and looks forward to next week’s game versus the Exiles.
