Zarek set for Pennsylvania Return
Rookie defender Zarek Valentin has had a whirlwind few months. Since being drafted by Chivas USA with the fourth pick in this year’s MLS SuperDraft, Zarek has played in 12 of the Goats’ 15 games so far, starting all but once. He has also spent time with the US U-20 National Team. Off the field, he’s been adjusting to life in a new city on the other side of the country, while rooming with teammate Heath Pearce.
This weekend he’ll get a chance to slow things down a bit and return home, sort of. Valentin grew up in Lancaster Pennsylvania, about a 90-minute drive from PPL Park where Chivas USA will take on the Philadelphia Union this Saturday. The rookie will have a contingent of nearly 200 fans for the game, all decked out in red-and-white to cheer him and the team on.
“I’m super excited,” he said. “My mom has been planning for it and talking about it literally since the beginning of the season. All my family, friends, classmates of mine, just anyone you can think of from back home- they’re all excited, and I’m even more excited to hopefully play in front of them, and if we get a win, that’d be great.”
