QUOTES: Fraser, Flores & Mondaini

Chivas USA Head Coach Robin Fraser

On the game …

“I don’t think we played great during the first 20 minutes. Actually I thought we played better toward the end of the half, because we started to put some passes together. Earlier in the game, we were a little too direct when we could have found opportunities to play, and I thought later in the half at times were able to play quite well and able to play through them.”

On positives to take away …

“When we decided to play, we were quite good, and we were able to play through them, which was a difficult thing to do here with this team and the kind of pressure they put on. I thought that at times when we played confidently, we were able to possess our way pretty well up the field.”

On defending Houston’s set pieces …

“A big part of it is controlling the game with the ball, and I thought that at times we did quite well with that and at times, with too many stretched, we didn’t do quite well with that. We weren’t as good in execution as we needed to be, which led to turnovers, which led to opportunities for them, which led to corner kicks and free kicks.”

 Chivas USA Forward Marcos Mondaini

On the game …

“Unfortunately, we couldn't hold the score, and we leave very sad because we let the game go. Our job is to play football on the field, especially our style of football. Sometimes players just don’t have a good day or the rival is stronger on the field, and they were able to gain the advantage through set pieces.”

 On the result …

“There is not a single person who is guilty; we are all responsible for what happened on the field. Unfortunately, they have the virtue of being good at set pieces. Tonight wasn’t the exception.”

 Chivas USA Midfielder Jorge Flores

On the game …

“It was a tough, hard-fought game by both teams. Unfortunately, we couldn't hold the result the way we wanted it. We need to be better prepared for those occasions that come our way again so that we can capitalize.

On things to improve on …

We need to be more careful with the ball. We know we are a good team when we take care of the ball, and that’s all that we are missing. This is what is going to take for us to take it to the next level.”
