Pearce to throw out ceremonial first pitch at the Dodgers game Sunday
Chivas USA will be at Dodger Stadium this Sunday for “Viva Los Dodgers Day”, an afternoon full of fun events. Fans can meet Tristan Bowen and Gerson Mayen, mingle with the ChivaGirls and ChivaFighter and take in live music, all starting at 11:10am in Lot 6, two hours before the game begins.
Perhaps the centerpiece of the afternoon will be when Chivas USA defender Heath Pearce steps out onto the famous mound in Chavez Ravine to throw out the game’s ceremonial first pitch.
“I am really excited,” said Pearce. “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I loved playing baseball growing up, and I’m a big baseball fan, so it’s always been a dream of mine. Hopefully I throw a good pitch.”
Based off everything Pearce told us, he shouldn’t have any trouble making a solid pitch. While Pearce was with FC Dallas, the 26-year-old used to play catch with roommate George John all the time, he said. And plus, he was a pretty good baseball player as a kid.
“I played on a few All-Star teams growing up,” recalled the Modesto California native. Pearce gave up the game around the age of twelve he says, at that age “when you basically had to make decisions, if you wanted to play soccer year-round and that sort of stuff. So that was end of it.”
Although he hasn’t practiced in a while, Pearce says he isn’t nervous. He’ll dust off a ball and warm up a bit before Sunday, but he’s confident in his ability.
“I mean if I had to sing the National Anthem, I’d be nervous,” joked Pearce. “But I can throw the first pitch, it’ll be fun.”
