Chivas USA Notes – (1-1 tie vs. Vancouver Whitecaps, The Home Depot Center, Carson, CA, 6/01/11)

• Chivas USA midfielder Nick LaBrocca scored his third goal of the season and Chivas USA tied 1-1 against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday night at The Home Depot Center before 11,753 fans.

• With the result, Chivas USA remains in seventh place in the Western Conference with 14 points, and has a record of 3 wins, four defeats and five ties.

• The Red-and-White will now face the Portland Timbers on Saturday night at The Home Depot Center. MLS expansion team Portland is currently in the sixth spot in the Western Conference and will be the first time it faces the Rojiblancos in league competition. Saturday’s match will start at 7:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on Prime Ticket and W Radio.

• Chivas USA was missing two players due to suspension (Marcos Mondaini and Jorge Flores), as well as three players serving international duty (Andrew Boyens, Simon Elliott, and Alejandro Moreno).

• The Red-and-White had in the starting lineup two Youth Academy products, midfielder Gerson Mayen as well as Chris Cortez.

• LaBrocca scored his third goal of the season at the 46th minute of the second half when he blasted a shot from outside the box to beat Whitecaps goalkeeper Joe Cannon.

• Two minutes later, Camilo tied the match with another a shot inside the box to the upper-right corner of the net.

• Vancouver forward Eric Hassli was ejected at the 66th minute after a late tackle on Ben Zemanski. The Red-and-White kept pressuring and had five shots on goal in the second half.

• Chivas USA Head Coach Robin Fraser about tonight’s match: “We were too passive, mostly in the first half. I give Vancouver credit- they were very organized defensively and weren’t easy to penetrate. On the whole, we weren’t progressive enough in terms of looking to get behind them.”
