Development Academy Showcase Update
CARSON, Calif (Tuesday, June 28, 2011) - The Red-and-White academy teams were in Texas this weekend, competing in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Showcase. The five-day event at FC Dallas’s Pizza Hut Park in Frisco Texas started late last week and finished up Tuesday.
The Chivas USA U-16’s played their final match Tuesday morning against Oakwood Soccer Club, finishing their Showcase undefeated after a 2-2 draw. The young Goats won their first game against Derby County Wolves 3-0, and their second match 1-0 against Colorado Rush AJ Auxerre. Steven Ortiz scored three goals for the Red-and-White, tallying twice in the first game and getting the game’s only goal in the second match.
The U-18 team had a strong season and qualified for the playoffs, so their matches in the Showcase were part of the postseason tournament. The Red-and-White drew their first match against Weston FC 2-2 and won their second match 2-0 against Derby Country Wolves, but a 3-1 loss to St. Louis Scott Gallagher Metro ended their run, and saw them knocked out of the tournament on goal differential.
The tournament was a great chance for the Academy teams to test themselves against the nation’s best youth sides, experience big-game pressure, and showcase their skills in front of leading coaches and scouts.
