Practice Report: April 5
CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, April 5, 2011) - Back from their two-match road trip, Chivas USA practiced at The Home Depot Center this morning for the first time in nearly ten days. After spending most of last week in frigid Toronto, the beautiful California weather was not taken for granted and spirits were high.
Midfielders Simon Elliott and Paulo Nagamura joined the team and participated in full training for the first time in weeks, both getting closer to recovering from their injuries.
The first exercise of practice was a drill strength and conditioning coach Jim Liston calls “The Circle of Doom”. The players dribbled balls around in the center of a large circle, awaiting Liston’s call of either “short!” or “long!”. Depending on his instruction, the players had to leave the balls and sprint around gates either 10 or 15 yards away. Only two players could go around each gate- so the drill worked on quick decision-making just as much as much as fitness. Eventually the drill took a musical chairs feel, as balls were removed from the center, eliminating a few players each round.
The squad broke up into three different teams for the rest of practice, splitting time between a 7-on-7 scrimmage and finishing drills.
The Goats will train at The Home Depot Center the rest of the week, in preparation for Saturday’s game against the Columbus Crew. Great seats are still available for the match, click here to see ticket options.
