Valentin plays 90 with U-20s
CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, March 30, 2011) - Chivas USA defender Zarek Valentin started and played all 90 minutes on Tuesday night, as the US opened the qualifying tournament with a 4-0 rout of Suriname. Valentin, who has nearly 30 appearances for the U-20 team, played as a right defender, next to his college teammate Perry Kitchen.
One of several Chivas USA players away on international duty this week, Valentin is with the American youth team attempting to qualify for the 2011 U-20 World Cup this summer. The World Cup starts on July 29th and is held in Venezuela this year. The next game for the U-20s is against Panama at 5 p.m. PT this Saturday. You can watch Zarek and the rest of the team live on ESPN Deportes or online at ESPN3.com.
While in Guatemala City with the U-20 team, Zarek also showed some of his personality, recording an “audio-cast” for the US Youth National Team blog. The audio-cast features impressions, jokes, and Zarek’s takes on the tournament and his career so far. Give it a listen here: Youth National Team Blog
