Three Chivas USA players to join national teams
CARSON, Calif. (Monday, March 21, 2011) – A trio of Chivas USA players will join their respective national teams this week ahead of upcoming international friendly matches, with Michael Umaña, Alejandro Moreno, and Andrew Boyens all playing for their countries. The three players will miss Saturday’s match against the Colorado Rapids and Tuesday’s U.S. Open Cup match at the Portland Timbers.
Michael Umaña, a regular for the Costa Rica National Team, rejoins the Ticos for their matches against China on March 26 and Argentina on March 29. Both matches take place at the Estadio Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica. Umaña has made 45 appearances for Costa Rica, including all three matches at the 2006 World Cup, and plays both right back and central defender with the team.
Alejandro Moreno will be with the Venezuela National Team for its coming matches against Jamaica on March 25 and Mexico on March 29. The team first travels to Montego Bay, Jamaica, to face the Reggae Boyz, followed by a return to Southern California for the Mexico match, taking place in San Diego. Moreno has made 29 appearances for Venezuela, scoring twice.
Andrew Boyens has been selected to the New Zealand National Team for its match on March 25 against China in Wuhan, China. Boyens has made 16 appearances for the All Whites and was on the team’s roster for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
