Practice Report: March 9

Team focuses on situational attacking and defending

CARSON, Calif. (March 9, 2011) - Chivas USA trained Wednesday on an unseasonably warm morning at The Home Depot Center. Strength and conditioning coach Jim Liston started the session by yelling out “Let's start with a light jog today on this beautiful day in Los Angeles!” He wasn’t kidding. The temperature approached 80 degrees, and felt even warmer on the sunny practice field.

The majority of practice was devoted to working on game-like scenarios, with sessions of situational attacking and defending. The team later broke up into two squads and spent some time playing an 11v11 full field scrimmage.

The coaching staff switched a few players from team to team, to work on different pairings. Communication on the field continues to be an important dynamic of practice, as the players are becoming more and more comfortable playing with each other.

Chivas USA will train again on Thursday morning, and will go through a brief training on Friday before departing to Dallas. The Goats take on FC Dallas on Saturday night in the teams last preseason match before opening the season on March 19 at home against Sporting Kansas City.
