Practice Report: March 10
CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, March 10, 2011) - It was another beautiful morning at The Home Depot Center Thursday, as Chivas USA went through their last full training session before the trip to Dallas.
The team split up into groups based on their position and spent the majority of training working on specialized skills. The first and second team defenders set up in their positions and worked on moving the ball across the backline. The midfielders worked with coach Fraser on possession and quick sharp passing. The forwards tested the keepers with a variety of different give-and-go moves and finishes.
Executing in the final third was the biggest theme of practice, and the entire team worked on crossing and finishing during the second half of training.
After training ended some of the players stuck around to practice penalty kicks. Sergio Arias was in net, working to stop the spot-kicks from a variety of players, coaches and even general manager Jose Domene. The penalty taking started off focused, but the mood quickly became light-hearted. Forward Victor Estupinan worked on a cheeky chipped attempt, and Arias yelled, talked trash and danced across his line, doing anything to distract the kick-takers.
