Chivas USA falls 2-0 against FC Dallas before 2011 Home Opener

LaBrocca plays his first game with the Red-and-White; Chivas USA plays most of the second hal

FRISCO, Texas. (Saturday, March 12, 2011) –Chivas USA fell 2-0 on Saturday night against FC Dallas, exactly one week before the 2011 Home Opener against Sporting Kansas City at The Home Depot Center. With goals by Daniel Hernandez on a freekick early in the first half and Ruben Luna in the second half, FC Dallas defeated the Red-and-White in a charity match in front of 6,015 fans at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.

It was the last preseason game for the Red-and-White before taking Sporting Kansas City next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Defender Zarek Valentin committed a handball slightly outside the box at the 23rd minute and a minute later, Hernandez scored the first goal of the match with a bending shot that went over the wall to the near post past Zach Thornton. Chivas USA went to the attack and had many opportunities, especially with long distance shots and a shot by Mondaini that was cleared by  FC Dallas defender Brek Shea when the Red-and-White attacker had beaten FC Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz at the 35th minute.

Chivas USA tried to control the game in the second half but a defensive mistake resulted in FC Dallas’ second goal of the night when Luna got the ball inside the area and easily chipped the ball past Thornton at the 53rd minute.

Defender and Captain Jimmy Conrad received two yellow cards in matter of seconds after an argument with Luna, and a hard foul on a FC Dallas player that earned him the second caution at the 62nd minute, resulting in Chivas USA playing the rest of the second half with a man down.

Midfielder Nick LaBrocca, who was traded to Chivas USA from Toronto FC on Friday, played his first match with the Red-and-White as a starter.

The charity match between Chivas USA and FC Dallas benefited Kids Across America and the FC Dallas Foundation.

The Red-and-White will return on Sunday to Los Angeles and will resume training on Tuesday ahead of Saturday’s match.
