Chivas USA declines option on forward Jesús Padilla

CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, March 9, 2011) – Chivas USA announced today that the club has declined its contract option on Jesús Padilla, a forward who had been on loan from Chivas de Guadalajara since August 17, 2009. In one and a half seasons with the Red-and-White, Padilla played in 37 matches (starting 24), scoring seven goals.

“Jesús gave the club a lot in his time here in Los Angeles, but we’ve decided to move in a different direction for 2011,” said General Manager Jose Domene. “We’d like to thank Jesús for his efforts and wish him the very best as he continues his career.”

Jesús Padilla joined Chivas USA on August 17, 2009, on loan from Chivas de Guadalajara, where he had come through the youth system from the age of 14. He broke into Guadalajara’s first team in 2006, and made 34 first-team appearances with the club in all competitions, with five goals and two assists. With Chivas USA, he played in 11 games (10 starts) for the team in his first season, scoring his first MLS goal on Oct. 3, 2009 at D.C. United in a 2-0 Chivas USA victory. In 2010, Padilla scored six goals in 26 matches (14 starts), good for second on the team.

Chivas USA continues its preseason in preparation for the 2011 Home Opener on March 19 against Omar Bravo and Sporting Kansas City. Tickets to the match are now on sale, as well as Season Seats for 2011, with prices remaining at the same low rates as 2010.
