Chivas USA acquires midfielder Nick LaBrocca in trade with Toronto FC

Red-and-White get 26-year-old midfielder in exchange for forward Alan Gordon

CARSON, Calif. (Friday, March 11, 2011) – Chivas USA has acquired Nick LaBrocca, a midfielder entering his fifth MLS season, in a trade with Toronto FC, in exchange for forward Alan Gordon. LaBrocca, 26, has played 89 games (81 starts) in his MLS career, scoring five goals and adding six assists, and will meet the team in Texas ahead of tomorrow’s exhibition with FC Dallas. The Red-and-White have traded away forward Alan Gordon, who scored one goal and had three assists in nine games (eight starts) in 2010, his only season with Chivas USA.

“Nick is an extremely intelligent, efficient player who will give us options and depth in the midfield,” said Chivas USA Head Coach Robin Fraser. “He’s proven himself in this league, and we’re excited to welcome him into the team. At the same time, we’re very sorry to see Alan go, and we’d like to wish him the best of luck in Toronto.”

Nick LaBrocca has established himself as a durable central midfielder in the past three seasons in MLS, and set a career high in assists in 2010 with Toronto FC, notching six helpers in his 28 matches (24 starts). Prior to 2010, he was with the Colorado Rapids, where he played 59 of the team’s 60 MLS games in 2008 and 2009, scoring twice in each season. He joined the Rapids in 2007, playing two MLS matches and helping the club’s reserve squad to a league championship, after a standout four-year career at Rutgers University. Originally from Howell, New Jersey, LaBrocca played for the United States Youth National Teams and participated in a training camp with the full National Team in November, 2008.

Forward Alan Gordon first came to Chivas USA in a trade with the LA Galaxy on August 5, 2010, and played nine games (eight starts) with the Red-and-White, notching a goal and three assists. In seven seasons with the Galaxy, Gordon had made 99 career MLS appearances, scoring 16 goals and adding 12 assists. Originally from Long Beach, Gordon moved to Arizona as a teen and played two seasons at Yavapai College in Arizona before transferring to Oregon State for the last two seasons of his collegiate career, scoring 26 goals in 40 games and earning All-Pac 10 honors in both seasons.

Chivas USA travels face FC Dallas this weekend in a final preseason tune-up ahead of the 2011 Home Opener on March 19 against Omar Bravo and Sporting Kansas City. Tickets to the match are now on sale, as well as Season Seats for 2011, with prices remaining at the same low rates as 2010.
