Report from Casa Grande

Team training in Arizona for seven days

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (February 11, 2011) - Chivas USA has arrived in Casa Grande, Arizona, ready for a week-long training stint and a trio of scrimmages against MLS opponents. The Red-and-White left Los Angeles on Friday morning and arrived at Grande Sports World, an athletic complex roughly an hour outside of Phoenix, in mid-afternoon. The team will go through a training session on Friday ahead of Saturday's scrimmage against the Seattle Sounders.

A quick one-hour flight to Phoenix saw a Chivas USA team of about 28 players, including some on the roster and others still looking for a spot on the squad. The group will be working hard, with games on Saturday (Seattle Sounders), Tuesday (Real Salt Lake), and Friday (Vancouver Whitecaps), and double sessions on Monday and Wednesday. The Red-and-White return to Los Angeles next Friday after the scrimmage against Vancouver.

When the team arrived at Grande Sports World, a resort with soccer facilities and a hotel with not much else in the surrounding area, the group took a quick meal ahead of the afternoon session. Nearby was the Seattle Sounders squad, including head coach Sigi Schmid, who has connections through his time at UCLA and the LA Galaxy with many Chivas USA players and staff, including Robin Fraser, Greg Vanney, Nick Theslof, Jim Liston, Simon Elliott, Jimmy Conrad, and others.
