Practice Report: February 11
CASA GRANDE, Ariz (February 11, 2011) - Chivas USA trained on Friday evening at Grande Sports World on the first day of the team's week-long training stint in Casa Grande, Arizona. The team went through a 90 minute session, working primarily on passing in tight spaces and stretching out after a day of travel.
The team had picked up a few trialists for the trip to Arizona, including goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald, midfielder 'Memo' Torres, and defender Jimmy Asprilla. Fitzgerald graduated from Wake Forest in December, and is a former teammate of Chivas USA midfielder Michael Lahoud, and Torres is the younger brother of United States National Team member Jose Francisco Torres. Asprilla, a Colombian most recently playing with Millionarios, had also trained with the Red-and-White on Thursday.
A positive sign in the training was goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, who is working his way back into full fitness and worked with the rest of the goalkeepers as well as coach Daniel Gonzalez. Kennedy, who has been reduced in training due to a lower back strain, is still practicing with some restrictions but getting close to a complete return. Chukwudi Chijindu, who had also been limited due to injury, participated in the practice as a neutral player.
The Red-and-White have a team dinner and an early breakfast on Saturday ahead of the scrimmage against Seattle Sounders FC at 10:30 a.m. MT (9:30 a.m. PT). For complete coverage, follow Chivas USA on twitter: @cdchivasusa.com.
