U-18 Team defeats Santa Ana Winds FC
SANTA ANA, Calif. – Chivas USA’s U-18 Team took a 3-2 victory over the Santa Ana Winds’ FC this past Saturday in the NPSL’s side inaugural match in Eddie West Field in Santa Ana before more than 1,000 fans. Both teams’ fought vigorously until the end, but the Red-and-White did not fall as supporter’s club Union Ultras cheered the team on.
In the first half of the match, the Santa Ana Winds took majority possession of the ball. The first goal of the match came in the 34th minute when Santa Ana scored the first goal of the match and in the history of the club. The Red-and-White would not stay behind and would score shortly after Santa Ana as Pedro Velasquez would take advantage of a centered pass inside the penalty area and headed the ball into the back of the net. The Santa Ana Winds’ Braulio Ramirez took advantage of a freekick rebuttal in the 43rd minute to give the Orange County team a 2-1 half-time advantage.
Chivas USA’s U-18 Team came back in the second half of the match and at the 48th minute, Velasquez scored once again when he took a long shot from outside the box and scored the second goal for the Red-and-White that would put the match in a 2-2 draw. The 75th minute finalized the match as Christian Carrillo would score the third and last goal of the match to mark the 3-2 victory for the Red-and-White.
Chivas USA's U-18 Team is currently on break from the U.S. Soccer Development League, and sit in second place in the SoCal Division. Chivas USA's Youth Team have an overall record of 7-3-4 (1-1-2 in division) and have scored 27 goals and given up 20. The Red-and-White will return to action in the Development League on February 12 when they face Real SoCal in Field 5 at The Home Depot Center.
