Central American Cup with Red-and-White flavor
Former Chivas USA midfielder Osael Romero is on international duty with El Salvador’s National Team as they dispute the Central American Cup (UNCAF) in Panama. El Salvador fell 2-0 against the host team, concluding the group phase with a 2-1-0 (W-L-T) record. Romero and El Salvador will face Honduras this Friday, January 21 in the tournament’s semifinal match.
Also disputing the tournament with the Costa Rican National Team is current Chivas USA defender Darío Delgado. After a 1-0-1 (W-L-T) record in the group phase of the tournament, the Costa Rican national team has qualified to semifinals, of which will be played this Friday, January 21 against Panama.
The top five teams in the Central American Cup earn a spot in CONCACAF’s 2011 Gold Cup, tournament in which 12 teams will play for a berth in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil. The Central American Cup has already qualified El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, and Honduras to the Gold Cup, while Nicaragua and Guatemala will play for the last and fifth spot available to qualify to the tournament disputed in the United States.
