ALUMNI UPDATE: Lillingston scores in Estudiantes victory

A recap of former Chivas USA players’ performance outside MLS

In Mexican First Division action, former Chivas USA forward Eduardo Lillingston scored a huge goal for his club, earning a win against Chivas de Guadalajara. Lillingston entered the match for his club Estudiantes Tecos as a 61st minute sub, and scored a last-minute goal to give his team a 1-0 victory. Now, Tecos and Lillingston will travel to visit unbeaten San Luis this Saturday, February 5. Watch Lillingston's goal here:

 

Also in Mexico, former Chivas USA defender Jonathan Bornstein did not play with UANL Tigres as his team fell 1-0 to Toluca last Saturday. Despite the loss, Tigres sits in first place of Group 1 with seven points along with Santos Laguna, and will play a top-of-the-table clash against Santos next Saturday, February 5.

Former Chivas USA forward Francisco Palencia came on in the 74th minute for club UNAM Pumas for the team’s 3-2 victory over reigning champion Monterrey. With this win, Pumas take first place of Group 2 in Mexico’s Clausura 2011 tournament with eight points, one point ahead of second place Cruz Azul. Next up for Pumas and Palencia will be an away match against Puebla FC.

Isaac Romo came on as a sub in the 83rd minute for Cruz Azul in the team’s 4-0 victory over Pachuca FC. Romo will look for more minutes with Cruz Azul in the club’s home match against Jaguares de Chiapas next Saturday.

Venezuelan international and former Chivas USA forward Giancarlo Maldonado played 65 minutes in club Atlante’s 2-0 win over Puebla FC. The victory marked the second win for the Cancun club in the Clausura 2011 tournament. Maldonado and Atlante will visit Chivas de Guadalajara next Saturday in the legendary Estadio Jalisco.

In England, former Chivas USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan played 90 minutes in goal as his team Hull City played to a 0-0 draw against league leader Queens Park Rangers in the English League Championship last Sunday. Hull City will look to add three points when they host Leeds in a home match this Tuesday, February 1.

In Belgium, former Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan did not play in club Anderlecht’s 0-0 draw with KV Mechelen in the Belgian Jupiler League last Sunday. Kljestan and Anderlecht will host St. Truide next Saturday. Despite the draw, Anderlecht continues in first place in the league with 53 points, three points away from second place club Genk.
